Indian cricketer and Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal has been admitted to the hospital in Agartala, the capital city of Tripura after feeling unwell during a Delhi-bound flight. Mayank was with his Karnataka state team in the city to play his side's fourth Ranji Trophy 2024 match which they won and was returning from Agartala before the incident took place.

Mayank, reportedly complained of a burning sensation in his mouth and throat as his team was set to travel to Surat for their next match in the Ranji Trophy against Railways, starting February 2. The Karnataka captain is currently under observation and is clinically stable. Agarwal had reportedly consumed liquid from a bottle that he believed contained drinking water during the flight to Surat via Delhi.

"IndiGo flight 6E 5177 operating from Agartala to Delhi returned to origin due to a medical emergency onboard. The passenger was offloaded and was rushed to the hospital for further medical assistance. The aircraft took off again for its destination at 1620h," the airline confirmed in a statement.

"The team was on flight and apparently Agarwal started feeling uneasy and vomited a couple of times sitting on the flight. Since he started feeling sick, he de-boarded. From KSCA MR Shahvir Tarapore called and we quickly sent two of our representatives to the ILS hospital. He is under observation and we are told doctors are running some tests. Now there are multiple theories as to what he might have consumed," a Tripura Cricket Association official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Karnataka won their second game of the ongoing season in the Ranji Trophy against Tripura out of the four played so far. Karnataka began their campaign with a win against Punjab, before losing to Gujarat and drawing against Goa and captain Mayank Agarwal has led from the front.

After beginning the campaign on a horror note with two consecutive ducks in the first match against Punjab, Mayank has gone on to smash centuries against Gujarat and then Goa.

Karnataka are currently at the top of the points table in Elite Group C. Karnataka are tied on points with Tamil Nadu (15) but have a better net run rate.
