ENG vs NZ, World Cup 2023 Highlights: Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra smash centuries as New Zealand beat England by 9 wickets

It was a colossal loss for defending champions England in the first game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against New Zealand as the Blackcaps were on fire on the opening night. Chasing a target of 283 runs, New Zealand came out all guns blazing and coasted home with 82 balls to spare as Devon Conway and the World Cup debutant Rachin Ravindra smashed centuries. The real winner was the bowling for New Zealand, who were without two of their lead pacers Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson. Matt Henry, Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips combined to take wickets at regular intervals as except for Joe Root no other England batter could play long and eventually they fell short, by a lot. England will hope to come back in their second game against Bangladesh in Dharamsala in four days' time.

    Buttler at toss

Would've bowled first as well. Looks a really good wicket. Preparation has been okay. Had a good series against NZ at home. Very proud of the achievement four years ago. Ben's going to miss this game. Has a niggle with his hip. Guys missing out are Atkinson, Topley, Willey and Stokes.

  • 1:50 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik

    Tom Latham at toss

Going to have a bowl. Looks a reasonably good surface. Hopefully later on it gets better to bat. Preparation has been great. Guys came together from different parts of the world a week ago. Unfortunately Kane's not quite ready yet. Ferguson has got a bit of a niggle. Sodhi, Kane, Southee all miss out.
