
During those days, the term smuggling was used for carrying small items like watches and transistors etc. Ghalib lured Mastan with highly priced prize if he could transit such items in his clothes by disguising as a coolie.
In 1956, Mastan met Sukur Narayan Bakhiya, a smuggler in Daman near Gujarat. By now Mastan had made a name in the smuggling world and his small scale transit of goods had taken a bigger shape.
Bakhiya, who smuggled goods transported from sea routes, gave Mastan a proposal. He told him that if he could help him in smuggling goods from Mumbai, he would help Mastan in providing a safe exit of his goods from Daman port.

Smart and witty, Mastan made contacts with many famous personalities. His list of friends included Bollywood superstar Dharmendra, Feroze Khan, Raj Kapoor and many more.
His lifestyle transformed into a luxurious one. Always clad in stylish clothes, Mastan had everything he always dreamed of.
