New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki, one of the leaders of passenger vehicles reported that it sold 1.23 lakh units in May, which increased by 7.1 percent compared to 1.15 lakh units sold in year-ago period.

The report says that the domestic sales grew by 10.6 percent to 1.13 lakh units while exports fell 20.8 percent to 9,872 units against 12,466 units in corresponding period of last fiscal.

Sales of mini segment cars, which includes Alto and WagonR, declined by 5.6% to 33,105 units as compared with 35,062 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.

The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire and Baleno surged 11% to 46,554 units in the reported month as against 41,926 units in May last year.

MSI said sales of its compact sedan Dzire Tour declined by 19.9% to 2,555 units during the month under review compared with 3,190 units in May 2015.

Sales of mid-sized sedan Ciaz soared 3.5% to 5,188 units in May.

Sales of utility vehicles including Gypsy, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, S-Cross and recently launched compact SUV Vitara Brezza surged over two-fold to 13,596 units in May from 5,567 units in the corresponding month last year.

Sales of vans -- Omni and Eeco -- rose 4.8% to 12,164 units in May as against to 11,602 units in the same period of the previous year.

Exports during the month declined by 20.8% to 9,872 units compared with 12,466 units in May 2015, MSI said.
