Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has been questioning his appointment ever since Deol was given the charge of Punjab Advocate General.
Amarinder Singh had resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab on September 18 following months of infighting between him and Navjot Singh Sidhu. The development came months ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections.
Sources say reports say present Working President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Kuljit Nagra and Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu are frontrunners for the post of new Punjab Congress President.
According to sources, earlier it was only CM Charanjit Singh Channi who had left for Delhi, however, his chopper was made to land in Chandigarh airport where Working President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Kuljit Nagra and Congress MP from Ludhiana, who is in the race for the post of new Punjab Congress President Ravneet Singh Bittu along with Channi boarded a chartered plane to Delhi.
The move comes in an effort of resolving the tussle between Chief Minister Charanjit Channi and Navjot Sidhu over the removal of the Advocate General.
In a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said he will continue to serve the party. Sidhu had taken over as the state party chief in July amid a leadership tussle with Amarinder Singh, who stepped down as CM 10 days back while accusing the party high command of humiliating him.
The former Punjab CM is likely to meet Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital, sources said.
