New Delhi: Two youths attempted to rape and kill a Civil Judge and her sister in Civil Lines area of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.

In an FIR filed by the judge's family late Monday, the assailants were identified as Gopal Gupta from Bareilly and Pankaj Gupta from Farrukhabad.

The 47-year-old judge was alone in the house when the attack occurred. Police said it was unclear how the men entered the residence.

The accused also brutally attacked to kill her but had to left mid-way which saved the life of the woman judge.

The judge, who had bruises on her body, had also been forced to swallow a toxic disinfectant.

The two attackers apparently did that twice, perhaps thinking it would be potent enough to either render her unconscious or kill her.

In the morning, the judge was rushed to JN Medical College for an examination, where she was declared to be out of danger. Her family later arrived from Bareilly and took her home, police said.

The incident, which has shaken the legal fraternity and the general public alike, has come at a time when the Samajwadi Party government in UP is being pilloried for its inability to contain lawlessness ever since news broke out of the rape and hanging of two teenaged sisters in Badaun on May 28.

On Saturday, the body of a 20-year-old was found naked, her face disfigured with acid, in Baheri of Bareilly district.

The police is probing the incident and has sent the victims for medical examination.
