Sultanpur: An elderly woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men here, following which an FIR has been registered, police said today.

The incident took place on August 3 when the 60-year-old woman was on her way to an agricultural field, police said, adding, three men—Imtiyaz, Ishtiyaq, and Manjesh Verma— raped her.

However, the woman alleged that when she went to Gosainganj Police Station to file an FIR, she was asked to come the next day.

She also said that she continued to approach the police who did not lodge a case, following which she narrated her ordeal to Superintendent of Police, Saumitra Yadav.  The FIR in the incident was then lodged yesterday on Yadav's mediation.

On her insistence for lodging a case, one of the accused, Imtiyaz, was picked up on charges of apprehension of breach of peace.

She informed Yadav about the incident who took exception to the behaviour of Station Officer Dharamraj Upadhaya and directed for lodging a case of gang-rape against the three.  The SP, when contacted, said that FIR has been lodged and woman sent for medical examination.
