Nursing Student Set On Fire In Jaipur Hostel

Jaipur, Mar 12: A nursing student sustained serious burn injuries in the hostel of Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (BMCHRC), situated at Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg, in the wee hours on Sunday. 

The victim, Mausami Choudhary, 20, stated that while she was asleep, somebody knocked the door of her hostel room. She said that initially she ignored it but when the door knocked at again, she opened it.

She further said that when she opened the door, a woman, about 28-29 year-old, set her ablaze after pouring kerosene on her. Mausami shouted for help and soon fell unconscious.

Mausami, a resident of Chaksu town, is the first year student of Journal of Medical Science. She has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the SMS Hospital with 51 per cent burns. Her condition is stated to be critical.

The incident came to light when another inmate of hostel, Seema, went to take charger of mobile phone from Musami around 8 am.

On entering the room, Seema found Mausami unconscious on floor with burn injuries. Seema rushed to hostel watchman Hanuman Singh and the latter informed hostel warden Manju Chaudhary.

The hostel authorities rushed Mausami to the SMS Hospital.
