Puducherry saw a high voter turnout of 78 per cent while in Manipur, the polling percentage was nearly 75, sources in the election office said.
Jammu and Kashmir recorded the lowest voter turnout of 42%. Politically significant Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra recorded 58% and 55% voter turnout in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections respectively.
This time however, the poll panel did not share the overall polling percentage at its briefing, saying the data was being collated and would be available later.
Addressing media persons at a press conference here, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Jammu and Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar said Jammu Parliamentary Constituency, spread across four districts of Jammu, Samba, Rajouri and Poonch with 20 assembly segments, recorded voter turnout of 72.16 per cent.
Election officials said voter turnout was high at most places, while poll-related violence saw death of two persons in Andhra Pradesh and complaints poured in from various states about glitches in electronic voting machines and of names missing from the voter lists.
A total of 2.35 lakh voters casted their votes in Jammu; while in Kashmir, the total number of electorate was 1,35,774.
There was poor turnout in the Kashmir Valley in the first phase of the civic polls that took place amid boycott calls by the two key parties in the state -- the National Conference and the People's Democratic Party.
A single-phase polling was held in 222 constituencies out of the 224 elected seats in the Assembly, including 36 reserved for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and 15 for the Scheduled Tribes (ST).
Brisk voting is underway in Karnataka as people have lined up to cast their votes early and escape the summer heat. Around 10.5 per cent votes were recorded by 9.15 am, the election commission told media.
In Gorakhpur, the lowest voter turnout of 33 per cent was in Gorakhpur city, and the highest 47 per cent in Sahjanwa and Campierganj.
According to the Election Commission sources about 84.5 per cent votes were recorded at the end of polls which passed off peacefully.
The stakes are as high for other parties, including the Congress, SP and BSP, which are hoping to make a comeback after their drubbing in the Assembly polls earlier this year.
