Sensex, Nifty rally over 1% amid firm global trends

The 30-share BSE benchmark opened higher but could not carry forward the momentum and declined 236 points or 0.43 per cent to settle at 54,052.61. During the day, it hit a low of 53,886.28 and a high of 54,524.37.

Equity benchmark indices opened on a negative note on Thursday with the Nifty slipping below the 16,000 and Sensex falling nearly 850 points.
Unabated selling by foreign institutional investors and a jump in crude prices also weighed on sentiment, traders said.
The NSE Nifty declined 61.80 points or 0.38 per cent to end at 16,240.05. Among the Sensex firms, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, NTPC, Titan, Bajaj Finance, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra and ITC were among the major laggards.
Sensex declined more than 800 points to trade below 54,000 in the opening trade while Nifty slipped below 16,200 after falling 250 points.
The 30-share BSE benchmark dived 980.45 points to 54,721.78 in early trade. The NSE Nifty also declined 300.15 points to 16,382.50.
The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex had jumped 897.77 points or 1.61 per cent to 56,566.80 during the day. But it pared most of the gains and closed just 33.20 points or 0.06 per cent higher at 55,702.23. Similarly, the NSE Nifty inched up 5.05 points or 0.03 per cent to 16,682.65.
Sensex and Nifty fell over 2 per cent each soon after RBI announced to hike the repo rate and cash reserve ratio.
The 30-share BSE benchmark went lower by 84.88 points or 0.15 per cent to settle at 56,975.99 after recovering some lost ground during the fag-end of trade. During the day, it tanked 648.25 points or 1.13 per cent to 56,412.62.
The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 537.22 points or 0.94 per cent to end at 56,819.39. During the day, it tanked 772.57 points or 1.34 per cent to 56,584.04. The NSE Nifty declined by 162.40 points or 0.94 per cent to 17,038.40.
