An RBI panel on Friday suggested setting up of a federal body on the lines of the GST Council to implement reforms and boost credit flow in the agriculture sector, besides pitching for direct transfer of subsidy and no farm loan waivers. Among other recommendations, the panel said banks should develop a management information system (MIS) to flag loans sanctioned against gold as collateral in core banking solution (CBS) platform for effective monitoring of end use of funds.
Stating that many states have rolled out the scheme, Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala during the Question Hour urged the West Bengal and Delhi governments to implement the scheme at the earliest and ensure benefits reach farmers. After its very first Cabinet meeting, Modi government announced Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana. Under this scheme, farmers will get Rs 3000 per month as pension.
"The transfer of money could not take place owing to data mismatch for nearly 1.5 lakh farmers. All the data mismatch will be corrected and the funds will be transferred to the accounts of farmers," he said.
While the budgetary outlay of the Agriculture Ministry was Rs 1.21 lakh crore during 2009-2014 of the previous government, the Modi government had increased it to Rs 2.11 crore during 2014-19, he said.
