2) Child pornography:  When a Couple was sentenced to 2,340 Years in Prison

A couple named Matthew and Patricia Ayers will live rest of their lives in prison. This is the maximum sentence of a combined 2,340 years that they have been given, following their conviction for over 100 counts of producing child pornography.

The U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler, who ruled in the couple's case, called this “the worst case I have personally dealt with, including murders.”

After committing this heinous crime the Alabama couple pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in June after persecuting a minor in their custody for three and a half years – between the summers of 2010 to January 2013.

In their plea agreement both Ayers acknowledged that they photographed the child in vulgar and lascivious poses. Moreover, each of them took turns engaging in sex acts with the child while the other photographed the sick interactions, according to the report.

At the couple's sentencing, Judge Coogler said, “You robbed this child of her childhood and her soul, and a maximum sentence is the only sentence appropriate.”

The child pornography is a massive industry that exists largely online, and there has been a dramatic increase in mistreatment since the 1990's.
