Tihar spokesperson Sunil Gupta said: "We do not keep a separate record on any of the prisoners. I cannot provide you the figure of the money spent on Afzal Guru."


 
The source said, Afzal is well aware about  the hanging of Ajmal Qasab and the current debate around his death sentence. The fear of a sudden execution, however, has not affected him yet.  
 
Afzal Guru is lodged inside a 16-feet long and 12-feet wide cell. All food served to him is first tasted by the deputy jail superintendent himself,  it is claimed.
 
Afzal Guru prefers to drink milk and is calm most of the times.  There is a big park outside his cell, where he usually goes for a walk. In the corner of the park, is the hanging scaffold.
 
Several months ago, Indian intelligence agencies got an info from Pakistani agencies that Afzal Guru has passed away inside Tihar jail. The then DGP of Tihar Prisons was alerted, and the DGP woke up the Jail No.3 superintendent at around 2 am and asked him to ascertain the condition of Afzal Guru.
 
The jail superintendent without disclosing the brouhaha to Afzal Guru, went to his cell, spoke to him for a few minutes and came back to inform his seniors that it was a mere rumour.  The Indian intelligence agency immediately forwarded the same info to the neighbouring spy agency.
