The Union minister contended that as against the summative assessment which encourages the coaching culture, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises formative assessment.
Defending the Common Universities Common Entrance Test (CUET), Yogesh Singh said, "the cut-off system did not offer equal opportunities to all students but the CUET will judge them on equal parameters and will not be disadvantageous for those who studied under from boards that are not lenient in awarding marks."
The UGC chairman had last week announced that CUET scores, and not Class XII scores, will be mandatory for admission to 45 central universities and the central universities can fix their minimum eligibility criteria.
The aspirants can register their names for CET-2022 from April 5 to April 20 and submit applications.
"From the 2022-23 academic year, the National Testing Agency will be conducting the CUET for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. All the central universities will have to consider CUET scores for admissions to their programmes," UGC chairman Jagdesh Kumar said in a press briefing.
This means that apart from the eligibility criterion of different universities, Class 12 board examination marks will not have any bearing on the admission of the students.
The shortlisted candidates need to login to niftadmissions.in and fill choices by March 11, the admit card will be available to download from March 16.
