The Tamil Nadu Assembly today (June 26) unanimously passed a resolution on Wednesday urging the central government to conduct a caste-based census soon.
The resolution piloted by Chief Minister M K Stalin said the central government should immediately commence the census work, which is due from 2021, along with caste-based population census this time.
Bihar caste census: Samrat Choudhary said that BJP had supported the caste census in Bihar and is not against it. Home Minister Amit Shah also said we are not against it. A decision will be taken at an appropriate time.
The video, circulated by Rishi Bagree (@rishibagree) on the X platform, falsely suggests that Gandhi specifically addressed minorities in his speech. In his speech, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the Congress party’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive socio-economic and caste census.
Sharma's letter comes at a time when the Congress has intensified its demand for a nationwide caste census and promised to carry out the exercise if elected to power in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
A few Congress Ministers and MLAs, especially those from the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community, have also expressed their apprehensions regarding the caste census report.

As per the report, tabled by parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, the state was home to about 2.97 crore families, out of which more than 94 lakhs (34.13 per cent) were poor.
