Mahindra just rolled out a new 6-seat version of the XEV 9S, priced at Rs 25.25 lakh (ex-showroom). That’s Rs 25,000 more than the 7-seater, and honestly, the extra spend mostly goes into those new captain seats in the second row. The 6-seater comes in Pack Two Above, Pack Three, and Pack Three Above trims.
With this update, Mahindra puts the XEV 9S in the ring as one of the few EVs in its class—alongside the Kia Carens Clavis EV—to give buyers a real choice: six seats or seven.
Mahindra XEV 9S 6-seat: What’s new?
The big news is those individual captain seats in the middle row. Passengers get their own armrests, and the space between the seats makes it simple to squeeze into the third row. That’s a big win for families who don’t want to climb over or fold down a bench. The captain seat setup also frees up more space on the floor, so folks in the last row can actually stretch their legs, which makes a difference on longer trips.
Rear-seat comfort gets a boost
Otherwise, Mahindra has not changed much interior. The 6-seater keeps all the comfort features from the 7-seat version, including rear AC vents and dual 65W USB charging ports for the back rows. If you often drive around with six people and want everyone to have a bit more elbow room—especially in the middle—this setup just makes sense. Plus, moving around the cabin is way easier without a big bench soaking up space.
Mahindra XEV 9S 6-Seat: Battery and range
On the mechanical side, everything will look familiar. The 6-seat option is available only on the higher-end variants—you cannot get it with Pack One above.
The Pack Two comes with either a 70kWh or 79kWh battery, while Pack Three and Pack Three Above only get the bigger 79kWh unit.
Every variant uses a single rear-mounted electric motor, putting out up to 380Nm of torque. The top trims make 286hp, while Pack Two gets 245hp.
Battery range: The 70kWh battery is good for up to 600km, and the 79kWh stretches that to 679km (claimed, of course). So the larger battery is clearly the pick for folks planning road trips.
Price in India and variants
Price-wise, the 6-seat XEV 9S opens at Rs 25.25 lakh – just a bit more than the 7-seater. For that, you are mainly paying for second-row comfort and easier access, not major tech upgrades. The competition is still mainly the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which also lets you pick between 6 or 7 seats.
So, is the 6-seat setup worth it?
If you care about comfort for every passenger, especially for family drives, those captain seats are a nice touch. If you do not always need 7-seats but want trips to feel a little more premium, that extra Rs 25,000 is pretty easy to justify. But if maximum headcount is the priority, yo uare probably still better off with the regular 7-seater.
