Monkeypox has been also reported in certain non-endemic countries including the USA, UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Austria, Canary Islands, Israel, and Switzerland.
"Waning of immunity from smallpox vaccination may be contributing to the increasing outbreaks of Monkeypox," Prof. Raina MacIntyre said.

Monkeypox scare in India is climbing as the rare viral infection is being reported in a number of countries. While no confirmed cases have been found in India, BMC has issued guidelines for isolation and management of the suspected cases.
Monkeypox is rarely identified outside of Africa. But as of Friday, there were 80 confirmed cases worldwide, including at least two in the United States, and another 50 suspected ones.
So far, 14 countries have reported cases of the viral disease, and Belgium contributed with three cases.
While so far no deaths have been reported, about 28 cases in these countries are potential cases. Investigations are going on to confirm them, the global health agency said.
People who catch the monkeypox virus initially suffer a fever before rashes and skin lesions appear on the face and body.
The World Health Organisation has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the recent outbreak of monkeypox. Cases have been confirmed in Europe in the United Kingdom, Spain Portugal, Germany, and Italy. United States, Canada, and Australia have also reported cases.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also asked the health officials to keep a close watch on the sick passengers travelling from the affected countries
After a patient in the UK was diagnosed with monkeypox and isolated for treatment, Portugal and Spain have also reported cases of the rare infection.
Last week, Britain reported three earlier cases of monkeypox, including two people who lived in the same household and the other who had previously traveled to Nigeria.
