Amid the prevailing heatwave conditions, the Delhi NCR on Thursday (June 6) reported two fire-related incidents caused by explosions in air conditioning units.

According to reports, the first incident occurred in a housing society situated in Sector 1 of Vasundhara, where an air conditioning unit caught fire after running continuously for several hours in scorching temperatures.

Speaking of the incident, Rahul Kumar, Chief Fire Officer, said, "Today around 5:30 am, Vaishali Fire Station received information that a fire broke out at a 2-storey building in Vasundhara. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot...the fire broke out because the AC unit exploded."

The Chief Fire Officer also informed that while the fire was doused within an hour, no casualties were reported.

Further, in another incident, a fire broke out on the 17th floor of a high-end society in Noida due to a short circuit in an AC unit. The incident occurred in the Eldeco Society of Noida's Sector 119. Officials said that prompt action by the fire department and society maintenance team averted casualties, although significant damage was reported.

It is pertinent to note that these aren't the first cases of fires caused by short circuits in AC units. Recently, a massive fire broke out in a flat at Lotus Boulevard Society in Noida's Sector 100 after a blast was reported in an air conditioning unit.

Meanwhile, amid the growing incidents, Noida CFO Pradeep Kumar Choubey issued an advisory to prevent further such blasts. He said, "The temperature outside is nearly 50 degrees Celsius, leading to higher usage of air conditioners and a surge in power demand. I want to request people not to use their ACs throughout the day."

The CFO further also advised people to get their ACs serviced regularly and not to put extra load on them.
