India is likely to receive normal amount of monsoon rainfall this year, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the agricultural bowl of north India, are likely to observe less-than-normal rains during the second half of the season.
It was on October 17 that Kerala saw rainfall in excess of 200 mm; October 18 and 19 saw Uttarakhand receive rainfall in excess of 200, 300 400 and even 500 mm rainfall whereas on October 20, it was sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim that saw extreme rainfall events
Following excessive rainfall, residents of the area expressed their concern over the situation.
One such locality is Chitrakut Nagar where water logging situation has not witnessed much improvement in the last one month.
Around 90 bodies have been retrieved and over 100 people are still missing following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in coastal regions of Maharashtra.
IMD predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe for Monday.
The IMD said moderate to severe thunderstorms with lightning are very likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and east Rajasthan during the next 24 hours.
