Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday said the latest genome sequencing report shows the new 'Omicron' variant of coronavirus has been found in 84 per cent of the samples tested.
Delhi recorded the highest number of 263 Omicron cases as of today, followed by Maharashtra at 252, Gujarat 97, Rajasthan 69, Kerala 65 and Telangana 62.
The Delhi government, in its new guidelines, said that only 50% seating capacity will be allowed in the metros, and standing will not be allowed. With the new restrictions, each coach can only accommodate about 25 passengers.
Maharashtra and Delhi both are points of concern when it comes to the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Out of 578 cases of Omicron variant in the country, Delhi has reported a maximum of 142 cases.
Along with the fatality reported on Sunday, Delhi witnessed seven deaths due to Covid-19 in the month of December.
Six deaths have been reported in December so far.
Delhi on Thursday had achieved the milestone of administering at least one dose of Covid vaccine to all above 18, government data showed.
According to the health bulletin, there was no fatality reported due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in the national capital.
The Chief Minister said that several review meetings have been held for the availability of beds, oxygen cylinders and medicines in the hospitals.
Seven deaths linked to the virus were reported in Delhi in November, the highest number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in the last three months in the national capital, according to official data. Delhi had recorded four Covid deaths in October and five in September.
The death toll due to the coronavirus infection in Delhi stands at 25,098.
The proposal was put in the DDMA meeting held on Monday, but it will now be discussed in the next meeting.
