A few days ago, the National Human Rights Commission also issued a notice to DGCA asking what steps have been taken or proposed to be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
Details about the number of passengers onboard could not be immediately ascertained.
The pilot-in-command was also informed of the situation. A message was sent to the company immediately seeking security on arrival to escort the passenger.
According to an Air India official, the flight landed safely in Russia.
The statutory body did not reveal the identity of the man involved in the incident but added that prima facie "it was opened accidentally".
The passenger took to the social media platform to complain about her recent trip wherein she found a stone while travelling from an Air India flight (AI 215) from Delhi to Kathmandu.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-- a regulatory body-- two incidents occurred on a Paris-New Delhi flight on December 6, last year, where two passengers misbehaved with their co-passenger.
Delhi court on Saturday denied police custody and sent Shankar Mishra, accused of urinating on co-passenger mid-air on Air India flight, to 14-day judicial remand. The Delhi Police had sought three days of police custody of Shankar Mishra.
Notably, Mishra is the vice president of the India Chapter of an American multinational financial services company headquartered in California.
The passenger posted a photo on Twitter showing bedbug bites on her arm which she claimed developed during the flight.
Air India is facing financial woes and has delayed payment of salaries to its employees for the month of May. However, the payment is likely to be made on June 15.
