Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel took the game away from England with their fearless approach.
Pant's 101 off 118 balls, during which he smoothly shifted gears to unsettle the English bowlers, had everyone, from his own skipper Virat Kohli to rival captain Joe Root, praising him to the sky.
The pitch for the third Test came in for sharp criticism from a few former England players after the visitors were bowled out for 112 and 81 in the day/night match.
The Indian board is contemplating over hosting the upcoming IPL edition across four to five cities.
India, with the 3-1 series win, now have 122 rating points having amassed 4505 points from 37 matches in the designated period.
Virat Kohli recorded his 36th win as the captain of the Indian Test team, going level with West Indies great Clive Lloyd.
Kohli also said that Rohit Sharma's ton in Chennai was a defining one and hailed Ashwin as India's 'most bankable player' over the years.
Axar and Ashwin then hounded the visitors with the left-arm picking his fourth fi-fer in the series and the latter re-entering record books as India finished the fourth Test in the final hour of day 3.
Pant, who has often been criticised for his mode of dismissals, scored a fabulous hundred to put India in the driver's seat.
