Who was the last Indian captain to score fifty-plus in a Lord's Test? Take a look at very short list

Indian captains haven't been able to tame the Home of Cricket in recent times, as it has been 35 years since anyone scored a fifty there. MS Dhoni had a best of 28, CK Nayudu had 40, but with Shubman Gill in the form of his life, can he make a difference?

Lord's Cricket Ground has been the most result-friendly venue for the Indian team in England as far as Test matches are concerned but not the most positive one for the Indian captains. Only three captains have been able to score 50-plus in an innings at Lord's for India in Tests and the last time it happened, it was 1990.

Mohammad Azharuddin is the only Indian captain to score a century at Lord's in Test matches. It was the infamous Graham Gooch showcase that saw him score 456 runs in the game and even take a wicket while Azharuddin provided respectability to India's scores, about which the less said the better.

Ajit Wadekar's 85 is next on the list. Wadekar's gritty knock at a strike rate of 46 was key in India taking a slim lead in the first innings and eventually holding England to a draw in the 1971 Lord's Test match. Sunil Gavaskar hit a fifty in the fourth innings to help India stretch the game to a draw.

Vijay Hazare is next on the list and has probably the best tally with an unbeaten 69 and 49 in the 1952 clash against England at Lord's, a line-up that had the likes of Pankay Roys, Vinoo Mankads and Ghulam Ahmeds of the world. Hazare's effort like Azharuddin didn't yield a positive result for India as England won by eight wickets

Sunil Gavaskar had a 48 to his name in the 1982 Test. Among the recent ones, Virat Kohli scored a 42 in 2021, but Indian captains haven't been able to tame the Home of Cricket. MS Dhoni had a best of 28, CK Nayudu had 40 but with Shubman Gill in the form of his life, can he make a difference?
