Movie review : Zilla Ghaziabad, tough outside, fragile inside

What one could expect from Sanjay Dutt in an action packed movie- punch liner, bone crunching action, a pinch a churn. And all to be served with some sense. Unfortunately ‘ZiIla Ghaziabad' lacks all these elements and what here looks more solid from outside is actually hollow from inside.The flick is set in Ghaziabad district, oops sorry! Zilla Ghaziabad. I apologized b'coz Vivek might get annoyed. Hold on, not because I am afraid of, but I couldn't digest his hilarious angry intense look any further. Mahendra Fauji (Arshad Warsi) is a short-tempered right-hand henchman of Ghaziabad's political figure played by Paresh Rawal who is often referred to as ‘Chairman'. He loots travelers and even police officers, especially their guns. Chairman has a good for nothing brother-in-law (Sunil Grover) and has a legal adviser in form of Satbir Gujjar (Vivek Oberoi) who is a well educated teacher is idealistic in nature, which Chairman loves him for. The brother-in-law is jealous of Satbir's ability, as he could also be Chairman's future son-in-law too. He takes advantage of a minor quarrel between Fauji and Satbir and works as a fuel to the fire. The quarrel takes the shape of a rivalry and the first victim here is Satbir's elder brother (Chandrachoor Singh), an army officer. Soon this rivalry turns into a big riot and the two become thirsty for each other's blood. So thirsty that a leading news channel leaving behind all the national news, covers their story. Seems like the channel is short of important stories. Local politics takes place with Rashid (Ravi Kishan) and Ashutosh Rana entering the scene.Satbir and Fauji are now the most wanted and with the flames of agony surrounding the whole district, a ruffian-cum-corrupt inspector Pritam Singh (Sanjay Dutt) is transferred to Ghaziabad. Will he be able to control the two? Find it out yourself or else I would wisely recommend you to not to indulge in.Director Anand Kumar has taken up the true story of two gangs of ‘Gujjars' set in 90's but has been untrue in his direction. With too much of melodrama, over the head action and unnecessary stuffing of songs torture you in 2hr 20minutes runtime. Just when you expect for the interval and it delays by few more minutes you surely lose you patience to have some beverages.Even if we cut down the predictable stale storyline, the pain of sitting through that duration is unforgettable. The torture is more with never seen hilarious action sequence, poor acting, weak screenplay and slapdash direction.One of the action sequences includes where Sanjay Dutt hangs in the air and shoots the goons, while goon is also smart enough to hang in air. Not to give him a neck to neck competition in his stupid stunt but to wait for being bashed by him.The situation looks more infuriating when Vivek is intense for a moment and suddenly roars like a lion and flies down from a rock. The scenes leave you holding your stomach with laughter while it irritates you at the same time. Unfortunately there are plenty of them.Sanjay Dutt as a cop is dull. His one liners, never heard phrases doesn't work. For a movie taken so casual while making, it seems he took his role casually too.In the flick, there is so much buzz about him as a baddy and brutal cop but his characterization is not hardcore.In the beginning it seemed Vivek Oberoi would pick further but he lets down through poor acting and leaves no impact. He tries to deliver his “Dum” performance but ends up giving us an unreal smile with his expressions.Arshad Warsi as a short-tempered goon is decent in his performance. He fears nobody and regrets less when he guns down any person.Minissha Lamba features after a long time but doesn't get too much footage and is odd.The Southern actress Charmi Kaur has her own mini lovestory with Vivek but they don't deliver a good romantic chemistry. Ravi Kishan seems refreshing in the villianious avatar.It's just Sunil Grover who perfectly suits in the role of a cunning mastermind behind the whole riot. The TV actor mostly seen in comedy shows, was given nil chance in big screen, but if given in future he is a man to watch out for. The soundtrack composed by Amjad-Nadeem is disappointing. Even Mohit Chauhan's soulful voice seems wasted in one of the tracks. Music by Pritam is not of his caliber. I will go with 1.5 stars for ‘Zilla Ghaziabad'. This Zilla is a district of headache. Even can't be termed as a masala flick for its action as there are lots of spices missing in the flick.
