Illegal phone tapping case: The Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting searches at 20 locations in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Kota, Lucknow, Chandigarh and other cities in connection with the FIR against Pandey, officials said.
The summons were sent to former Mumbai police commissioner Sanjay Pandey, who retired from the police force on June 30, the ED official added.
Earlier, Phansalkar had served Maharashtra Police in various key capacities. In 2018, Vivek Phansalkar was appointed as the Thane police commissioner succeeding Parambir Singh.
The Union Home Ministry has also sought a factual report from the Maharashtra government over Navneet Rana's allegation about her arrest and "inhumane treatment" by the police, officials said.
There were allegations of misconduct and corruption against former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
According to the CBI manual, a preliminary enquiry is initiated to assess if there is enough prima facie material in the allegations to proceed with a regular case for a full-fledged probe.
