Melbourne, Australia, Jan 19 : Second-seeded Petra Kvitova scraped into the third round of the Australian Open on Thursday, beating Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Suarez Navarro recovered from losing to the first set to win the second and then take a 2-0 lead in the decider, but Kvitova won a close third game of that set before regaining control.
The out-of-sorts Wimbledon champion finished the match with 48 unforced errors against Suarez Navarro, who beat sixth-seeded Venus Williams in the second round here in 2009.
Kvitova, one of three three players who can claim the top ranking from Caroline Wozniacki after the tournament, will play Maria Kirilenko of Russia or Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada in the third round.
