Sydney, May 24: Newcastle Jets youth league coach Arthur Papas says he has been appointed as coach of India's under-22 team.
Papas told the AAP news agency Thursday he will join the team on June 1 at a training camp in Dubai.
The 32-year-old Australian said he is eager about the prospects for the sport in India, saying: "With a huge population, FIFA is very keen to grow the game there... I'm very keen to show what I can offer."
The India youth squad is training at the Al-Wasl club in the United Arab Emirates and hopes to play a friendly against the Diego Maradona-coached team as preparation for its June 23 qualifier against Lebanon for the 2014 Under-22 Asian Cup.
