Former captain Younis Khan will decide in a couple of days whether to file a case in a court against Pakistan Cricket Board or appeal to PCB against its decision to ban him for an indefinite period.

Younis had earlier sent a notice to the PCB asking it to give reasons for the ban but the Board directed him to file a formal appeal.

Younis had met his lawyer Ahmed Qayyum and they would decide in a day or two whether to file a petition in court or lodge an appeal against the ban with the PCB.

"Younis has signed all concerned documents and his case is very strong but we have to look at the issue from many aspects. That is why we are taking our time to decide on whether to go to court or file an appeal with the board," Qayyum said.

"Even if we file an appeal with the appellate tribunal of the board we will ask them to hold the proceedings openly and to first let us know the charges and evidence against Younis," he added.

Younis and another former captain Mohammad Yousuf were banned for an indefinite period by the board last month for indiscipline on the tours to New Zealand and Australia.

The board, acting on the recommendations of an inquiry committee, also banned Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved for 12 months each and fined Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal.

Till now, only Rana Naved and the Akmal brothers have filed appeals with the PCB against their penalties.

Qayyum pointed out the board had stated that they had video-taped and recorded all statements of the officials and players which appeared before the inquiry committee and on the basis of whose statements it was decided to discipline the players.

"So we don't understand what is the logic behind not letting us know the evidence or charges on basis of which they banned Younis," Qayyum said. PTI
