Sydney: After crashing to a third 50-over defeat here at the SCG which handed Australia the one-day series with two games to play to add to their Ashes humiliation, Alastair Cook has raised doubts about whether he will continue as England one-day captain.

Cook, as low as he has ever looked as England captain after Australia coasted to a seven-wicket victory with fully 10 overs to spare to wrap up the 50-over series and put themselves on course for a second 5-0 whitewash. England have now lost eight games in a row against Australia on this tour and nine in a row if the final game in England in the summer is also included.

Asked if he was considering his future as 50-over captain, Cook said:  ‘I'm going to have to make a decision on that when I've taken stock after the next two games. We'll sit down and talk through a lot of things and I think there will be changes.

English cricket needs that change because in the last couple of months we haven't played the cricket we're capable of doing. We have to look at the reasons why but this is not really the time and place to discuss it.

Cook was adamant that he wanted to carry on as Test captain after the Ashes and he has the full backing of the ECB who want him to carry on with coach Andy Flower to build a new England side from the depths of this humiliation.
