Colombo, Mar 16: Spinner Rangana Herath picked up his 15th five-wicket haul and combined with seamer Nuwan Kulasekara to help Sri Lanka dismiss Bangladesh for 240 on the opening day Saturday of the second cricket test.
Bangladesh immediately set about making amends, dismissing Tillakaratne Dilshan off the third ball of Sri Lanka's reply when he cut at seamer Robiul Islam only to edge behind for a duck.
Sri Lanka was 18-1 at stumps with Dimuth Karunaratne on 12 and Kumar Sangakkara on 3.
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and sent Bangladesh in to bat first on an R Premadasa Stadium pitch which made both sides pick three seamers and only one spinner.
Kulasekara also gave Sri Lanka an early breakthrough, trapping Tamim Iqbal lbw for 10 with the score on 16.
But No. 4 batsman Mominul Haq fought with a top score of 64 off 98 deliveries, including three boundaries. That followed his 55 on debut in the drawn first test this week.
Without that placid pitch in Galle, Bangladesh found runs harder to come by, and captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who made the team's first double century in Galle, and Mohammad Ashraful, who compiled a career-best 190, were dismissed for 7 and 16 respectively.
Nasir Hossain was the last man out after scoring 48.
Herath finished with 5-68 and Kulasekara returned 3-54.
