Only three Indian captains have won a Test match at Lord's. Shubman Gill has the opportunity to become the fourth. The current five-match Test series between England and India is poised at 1-1.
After a five-wicket defeat against England in the first Test at Headingley, India scripted a strong comeback to beat the home side by 336 runs at Edgbaston. With that, the series is currently poised at 1-1. The third Test will be played at the iconic Lord's, and both teams will be eager to register a win and take an important lead in the five-match series to get one step closer to the series win.

Shubman Gill has the opportunity to create history by becoming the fourth Indian captain to win a Test match at Lord's. In his debut series as Test captain, Gill has proven his worth so far, delivering with both bat and as a leader. Despite an initial setback and not having Jasprit Bumrah in the second Test, Gill showed exemplary leadership skills and now, can become a part of the elite list.

Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev was the first Indian captain to win a Test match at Lord's. In the 1985-86 tour of England, India registered its first win at Lord's and it was the captain who led by example and was adjudged as the Player of the Match. He clinched five wickets in the match and scored 24 runs as India won by five wickets.

28 years later, MS Dhoni became the second Indian captain to win a Test match at Lord's. Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the stars in the match. Sharma, who was adjudged Player of the Match, clinched seven wickets in the second innings, while Bhuvneshwar picked up a six-wicket haul in the first. Ajinkya Rahane too scored a century in the first innings. Courtesy of their brilliant performance, India won the match by 95 runs in 2014.

Legendary Virat Kohli was the third Indian captain to register a win at Lord's in 2021. That was also the last time these two teams faced each other at the iconic stadium. In the match, KL Rahul and Joe Root seemed to be in phenomenal form, but ultimately, India clinched a victory, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj's ruthless bowling. The Virat Kohli-led side won the match by 151 runs.
