5 Players with worst batting average in Test cricket history
A plethora of players have featured in Test cricket so far for 12 different countries. While the bowlers are not expected to be great batters, they are mostly needed to hang around in the middle and lend support to the set batters at the other end. But a few players were never good batters.
Chris Martin of New Zealand is on top of this list after playing 71 Test matches for his country. He was a proper No.11 batter during his career and struggled to put bat to ball on most occasions. Martin scored only 123 runs in 104 innings in his Test career at an average of 2.36, which is the lowest for any player in Test cricket history who has played more than 20 matches. However, he also picked 233 wickets for New Zealand at an average of 33.81.

Asitha Fernando of Sri Lanka is an active player and has so far played 24 Test matches for his country. He is a very effective fast bowler, having picked up 80 wickets so far at an average of 27.33. However, when it comes to batting, Fernando doesn't have great memories, having mustered only 58 runs in 34 innings at a mediocre average of 3.22 so far. He is only 27 years old at the moment and would be keen on improving his batting average in the coming years.

Nuwan Pradeep is the second Sri Lankan player on this list. He played 28 Test matches for his country and picked up 70 wickets at an average of around 42.9 which is considered too high for a fast bowler. Even with the bat, he wasn't great as he scored only 132 runs in 50 innings at an average of only 4 with his highest score being 17*.
