Dharamsala: A 17-member team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) yesterday started a search operation for the two young French trekkers, who had gone missing in Himachal Pradesh on August 22.

The team of the 7th NDRF Battalion, Bathinda, Punjab, led by inspector Shyam Lal, arrived in Dharamsala on Friday.

A team of 20 people, including police personnel, members of the Himalayan Trekkers Association, forest guards, locals from the shepherd community and porters, will assist the NDRF in the search operation.

The massive manhunt will continue for over a week. The two French youths - Valentin Mousset and Francois Xavier Daubigeon - both aged around 20 years, went missing in Himachal Pradesh as they headed from Triund region for a trek towards Mon Peak.

The two were trekking along with their friends but took a different route on the way back and haven't been seen since. The state search teams so far have failed to locate them.
