In 1993, after serving as DCP of Crime Branch and South district, he was promoted and sent to CBI on deputation as DGP. It was during his nine-year tenure with the investigation agency that the Special Task Force was formed.
Under his leadership, the STF investigated the 1993 Mumbai train blasts and arrested seven members of Tiger Memon's family.
