Shillong: In a joint operation launched by the army and the Meghalaya Police, two Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) terrorists were killed on Sunday morning in the North Garo Hills district at the Assam-Meghalaya border.

A 9 mm pistol with two live rounds, two empty cases, a 7.65 mm pistol with three live rounds, a mobile phone, three SIM cards and an airbag containing medicines and clothes were recovered from the slain militants, said a security official.

Acting on intelligence inputs given by the armed men in the area, a special police team and troops from Assam's 19 Dogra regiment raided the hideouts at Rari last night, district SP Ramesh Singh said.

At around 4:40 am today, the militants opened indiscriminate fire after spotting the security forces, with two killed militants killed in the retaliatory attack, he said.

Their identity is yet to be established, but it is suspected that they belong to the A'chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF), he said. AMEF leader Jack Marak was gunned down earlier in May this year.

The team ambushed terrorists 4 kms inside Meghalaya on Assam Meghalaya Border.

Earlier in the month on June 9, Indian Army carried out a well coordinated and surgically executed operation - a few kilometers inside Myanmar in which at least 20 terrorists of Northeast insurgent groups NSCN (K) and KYKL were killed.

The terrorists were believed to be involved in the attack on a convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment in Chandel district of Manipur on June 4.
