Srinagar: Four policemen were injured on Sunday in a terrorist attack on police patrolling party near Qazigund in J&K's Kulgam district.

Militants opened fire on a police party at Nawa Chowgam village in Qazigund area, 75 kms from here, a police official said.

“The police party was on a routine patrolling of the area when the militants attacked them," a senior police officer told media in summer capital Srinagar.

The injured have been identified as Head Constable Manzoor Ahmad and constable Mohammad Ashraf and Mohammad Yaqoob.

The injured policemen have been shifted to hospital where attending doctors said two of them had sustained critical injuries.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the assailants, the official added.

In the last one month, militants have killed five policemen who were not deployed on counter-insurgency operations, but were doing routine policing like traffic control and management of law and order.

Most of such attacks have come against unarmed policemen.
