Sridevi’s ashes immersed: Boney Kapoor, Janhvi and Khushi perform Asthi Visarjan in Rameswaram (In Pic)

Sridevi, who was in Dubai to attend a family wedding, passed away due to accidental drowning following a loss of consciousness on February 24.

Sridevi was cremated on Wednesday with state honours and, on Sunday her ashes were immersed in the sea at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. Husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor carried our Sridevi’s Asthi Visarjan ritual. A picture of the Kapoor family along with a Pandit was shared by photographer Manav Manglani on Instagram. Sridevi’s ashes were brought by Boney Kapoor and family in a special aircraft and was taken to holy island town of Rameswaram on Sunday where the immersion ritual took place.

"A Falcon 2000 aircraft chartered for the trip will depart from Mumbai airport. The family is expected to return to the city later tonight”, a source was quoted as saying to Times of India on Friday.

The picture shows Boney Kapoor holding the urn carrying Sridevi's ashes just before immersing it in the sea. 

Sridevi, who was in Dubai to attend a family wedding, passed away due to accidental drowning following a loss of consciousness on February 24. She was cremated after being given the state honours in Mumbai on February 28. She is survived by husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

Condolences have poured in since the death of the actress, who redefined the importance of the female lead in India’s largely male-dominated film industry. From Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan, many Bollywood celebs were a part of Sridevi’s last rites.

Sridevi, who used only one name onscreen, had been a child actress and worked in regional films in southern India before making her Bollywood debut in the late 1970s.
