Producer Vashu Bhagnani is not taking any more nonsense as the same tune 'Chunari Chunari' is being used again in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, featuring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. Not only did Vashu Bhagnani attack Varun but also mentioned his father David Dhawan, saying that he should take responsibility and admit that they have lost millions post Coolie No 1.
On Friday, Vashu Bhagnani conducted a press conference to clear his fight against David Dhawan. In the press conference, it was revealed by him that Tips and producer Ramesh Taurani can no longer use the songs of his movie Biwi No 1. In addition, Vashu stated that the plot of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai seems to be somewhat similar to the film Biwi No 1, starring Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen and Karisma Kapoor.

'I informed David ji that I would like to produce Biwi No 1. In Coolie No 1 (2020), we incurred a loss of about 27 crore rupees. Actually, it is a namesake producer. It is David ji who has done everything regarding production and expenditure. I had given a lot of money to David ji for producing that film, nearly Rs 70 crore, which does not even worth of him,' the producer said during the press conference.
Vashu Bhagnani further added, 'Yeah this was the time of COVID and David ji said to me, 'Aapka jo bhi nuksaan hua hai, we'll arrange that in future. Let's make Biwi No 1.' As per the discussion, we made Biwi No 1 in six months' time. One day Rohit Dhawan informed me that the screenplay was not made. From its creativity process, I decided not to rush into things. Aaram se pictures banate hai (We'll shoot our films in a relaxed manner)... I incurred a loss of Rs 27 crores from Coolie No 1. Varun never made any effort ki uncle ka nuksaan hua hai; kaun poora karega? (how much has uncle lost? Who'll compensate him?).'
For the unversed, the movie released in 2020, had Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan as its stars. The movie received very negative reviews from the critics' side and on IMDb, the film has a poor rating of 1.4.
Vashu went on to clarify that he himself called upon David Dhawan upon coming to know that the song 'Chunari Chunari' in his film Biwi No1 was included in the film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Going into detail about the whole scenario, Vashu stated that he felt very much hurt to realise that Ramesh Taurani and David Dhawan had come together to make a movie. And then he called David Dhawan and had a showdown with him.
He also mentioned that the audio rights of Biwi No1 were sold to Tips at the time of its release and also mentioned that the people from the music label do not want to talk to him on this matter.
What we know about the dispute?
In the year 2025, several videos that were leaked on the sets of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai went viral on social media, giving us an insight into Varun Dhawan dancing with a remake of the famous song Chunnari Chunnari with Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. This soon developed into an intellectual property dispute between Puja Entertainment and Tips Music.
On May 13, the Court of Civil Judge (Senior Division)-I, Katihar granted Puja Entertainment (India) Ltd. interim relief in their case filed against Tips Music Limited, among others, regarding the unauthorised use of intellectual property rights for some of Bollywood's music and films.
In light of the ruling made by the court, the music label has defended itself from the accusations leveled against it during the litigation process, referring to them as being malicious and misconstrued. In a statement issued by Tips, the music label harshly criticised Puja Entertainment, stating that the legal action was an attempt to tarnish its image. Additionally, Tips asserted its ownership of the music rights in question.
For the unversed, the cast of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai comprises of Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde as lead actors. It is directed by David Dhawan and is set for release in theaters on June 5.
