New Delhi: From time to time, Bollywood has stood up to showcase the achievements of women through its films.

As the year 2013 gave women-centric movies like The Dirty Picture and Kahaani, the year 2014 was flooded with movies revolving around female protagonists.

While movies like Queen, Mary Kom had massive success at box office, flicks like Revolver Rani, Dedh Ishqiya failed to create any magic.

The success of such movies reinforced the belief of filmmakers in women-centric scripts.

Have a look at women-centric flicks that grabbed eyeballs in 2014.

Mary Kom: Priyanka Chopra, who has never shied away from experimenting with her roles, was seen playing the role of boxer Mary Kom in the film.

The actress, who has the record of playing maximum characters in ‘What's Your Rashee,' managed to impress as the five-time world champion boxer - Mary Kom.

Queen: This was probably one of the best gifts that Bollywood received on International Women's Day.

Kangana Ranaut-starrer Queen that released on Women's Day swept everyone off their feet. Kangana's effortless performance of a simple girl from Delhi made the audience fall in love with her.

The film proved to be a critical and commercial success.

Mardaani: Queen was so good that many good films got eclipsed. One of such film is Mardaani in which Rani Mukherjee acted really well as a crime branch cop. However, as the film that dealt with women trafficking was more than just a casual watch.

Though Rani has always done justice to her roles, it seems that the viewers were not too pleased to see her in a cop's avatar.

The film received a lukewarm response at the box-office while critics appreciated Rani's performance and the film was made tax free in states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Gulaab Gang: Madhuri Dixit, who ruled Bollywood with versatile roles and killer dance moves made her comeback with Gulaab Gang.

The movie was loosely based on Gulabi Gang, who fights against abusive men who mistreat women. Gulab Gang leader (played by Madhuri) stands up for those women and empowering them to fight for themselves.

She comes face-to-face with Juhi (a politician) who believes power is the key to fight against anyone.

However, even the hard hitting subject and the strong star cast couldn't save the film.

Though the actress was praised for her performance in the film, Gulaab Gang received a poor response at the box-office and turned out to be a dud.

Highway: A story of self-discovery starring Alia Bhatt who plays a girl kidnapped by a truck driver (Randeep Hooda), Highway was another fantastic film in which the woman ruled and the man played a secondary role.
