But she first tasted success with BR Chopra's Naya Daur in 1957, in which she sang ‘Maang ke saath tumhara', ‘Saathi haath badhana' and ‘Uden jab jab zulfein teri'.

In fact, she was officially acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist in music history in 2011.

As the ‘queen of Bollywood' turns 84, we bring you some of the all-time favourite songs sung by Asha Bhosle:

Dum Maaro Dum

One of her most popular tracks was from the 1971 release, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna', starring Dev Anand, Zeenat Aman and Mumtaz.

Helmed by Dev Anand himself, the film was a huge success at the box office. While Asha Bhosle has given several magnificent hits with RD Burman, one of their best known collaborations was from ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna'.

The song was ‘Dum Maaro Dum', filmed on the stunning Zeenat Aman, which later became the anthem of every Bollywood party.

From lyrics to music to Asha's euphonious voice, the song turned out to be a huge hit, and topped the charts. Asha Bhosle even won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award for the song.

 Do Lafzon Ki Hai

The key to every couple's heart, ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai' was a chartbuster song from 1979 release ‘The Great Gambler' starring Zeenat Aman, Amitabh Bachchan, Neetu Singh and Prem Chopra.

The romantic number was filmed on Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman on a moving gondola in Venice's Grand Canal.

While Anand Bakshi's lyrics and R.D Burman's music did wonders for the song, it was Asha Bhosle's soulful voice that added life to it.

The song was a huge hit and still continues to rule the hearts of lovebirds.

Mera Kuch Samaan

Gulzar gave Indian cinema a masterpiece with ‘Ijazat' in 1987. While the movie was directed by Gulzar himself, he also penned down an incredible song for the film – ‘Mera Kuch Samaan'.

It was Asha Bhosle's soothing voice that did complete justice to the song, which remains one of her most popular songs till date.

The song was composed by R.D. Burman and epitomized the versatility of ‘melody queen' Asha Bhosle.

Asha Bhosle won her second National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for ‘Mera Kuch Samaan'.

Tumse Milke

A 1989 blockbuster film, ‘Parinda', starring Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff and Nana Patekar, was helmed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

The film received huge appreciation worldwide and the song ‘Tumse Milke' turned out to be the most popular track of the film.

Another romantic number by Asha Bhosle and R.D. Burman, the track was filmed on Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Asha's melodious voice in this soulful number still continues to rule millions of hearts.

Zara Sa Jhoom Lu Main

From Rekha to Kajol, Asha Bhosle has lent her voice to several actresses, and managed to create hit tracks most of the time.

This peppy number from blockbuster film ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge' is another popular track by the ‘melody queen'. ‘Zara Sa Jhoom Lu Main' was shot on Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the beautiful locations of Switzerland. Though each song of the film was popular enough, yet Asha Bhosle, with her ageless voice, managed to leave a mark with this one.
