Kolkata, Mar 19: Bollywood playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan, who has recorded her maiden Bengali album, says attempting to croon a Rabindra Sangeet made her nervous.

“I was initially very nervous when Asha Audio approached me to be a part of this album. But at this juncture all I can say is that singing Rabindra Sangeet has been a gratifying as well as an exhilarating experience for me,” Sunidhi said.

Best known for peppy and foot-tapping Bollywood numbers like ‘Sheila Ki Jawani', ‘Desi Girl' and ‘Beedi Jalaile', she said the melody of Tagore songs is simply unmatched.  The 29-year-old versatile artist who started singing at the tender age of four, has recorded songs in many languages including Odiya, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, etc.

The conceptual album titled ‘Tagore & We - 2' consists of nine songs including a couple of ‘Bandish' where Sunidhi has sung four solo numbers and two duets with Soumyajit.

The songs include ‘Ektuku Chhoya Laage', ‘Sei Bhalo Sei Bhalo', ‘Tomaye Gaan Sonabo', ‘Sokatore Oi Kaandichhe' and ‘Megh Bolechhe Jabo Jabo'.

“Sunidhi is bound to surprise her fans as well as her detractors with her rendition of these Tagore classics. Her diction was immaculate and her range, supreme,” said Mahua Lahiri, director of Asha Audio Company.

The album will be available in stores from May, 2013. PTI
