This Independence Day, Akshay Kumar won’t be able to present his film solely. John Abraham’s cop drama Satyameva Jayate is standing tall in competition with his film this time. While Akshay Kumar’s Gold has a lot of buzz going around it, but it’s safe to say that Satyameva Jayate might impede his film’s ideal opening numbers at the box office. John Abraham’s action film has an equal amount of buzz going around it, making it an ideal competitor of Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy-starrer. However, despite the clash, Gold has procured more number of screens that Satyameva Jayate.
Coming to Gold first, there are many reasons why this patriotic drama is expected to do wonder this Independence Day. The film is releasing on Wednesday, which is gazetted holiday owing to Independence Day. The pre-booking for the tickets is already going with tremendous speed on several ticket booking platforms.
Actor Akshay Kumar has carved a niche for himself for making films either based on social issues (Toilet Ek Prem Katha, PadMan) or on patriotism (Airlift, Rustom, Gabbar and now Gold). After Rustom, Akshay Kumar has once again presented a film jampacked with patriotism, emotions, adrenaline rush, etc. Rustom cashed in Rs 14 crore at the box office despite releasing on the working Friday just before Independence Day 2016. Hence the collection restricted to below 20. However, this time Akshay Kumar’s Gold is releasing on Wednesday on August 15th, which is a public holiday. Therefore, Gold is expected to mint Rs 18-20 crore at the box office. It would have easily garnered around Rs 30 crore if Satyameva Jayate wasn’t clashing.
Talking about Satyameva Jayate, John Abraham’s film is also having a surprisingly high buzz around it. The film is expected to rake in Rs 8-10 crore at the box office. The collection could’ve been higher had it not been for Akshay Kumar’s Gold. Majority of the screens have been procured by the sports drama.
