Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam’s social drama Batti Gul Meter Chalu, which was earlier scheduled to release on August 31, is now rescheduled to September 14. With this, the Shree Narayan film is ready to lock horns with Kajol’s Helicopter Eela. The news came out a couple of days ago when the film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the same. Also, last week lead actors Shraddha and Shahid wrapped up shooting for the film with a peppy Bollywood track. They even shared the first look from the song on their respective social media.
Late night on Tuesday, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam were spotted at Film City in Mumbai shooting for a sequence for Batti Gul Meter Chalu. They were seen exiting the premises still dressed in their film costumes. Shraddha was wearing a navy blue sari over a full-sleeved cardigan. She was wearing no jewellery or makeup. Her look from the film reminded us of Anushka Sharma in Sui Dhaaga. It’s heartening to see that two A-listed actresses of Bollywood have shredded their glam image for a role.
On the other hand, Yami Gautam was also spotted at the Film City. She was dressed in a black lawyer coat with a white band, representing a traditional Indian lawyer. She was wearing a white sari with no makeup.
The makers have not revealed anything about the plot or the character of the film. However, these pictures are giving us some hints about the character. Batti Gul Meter Chali is a social drama based on the struggles of a common man. The story gyrates around the power distribution in hamlets of Uttarakhand and the struggles of a common man over very high electricity bills.
Yami Gautam has visited a court session to prepare for her role in the film.
“Yami was in the court to try and grasp mannerisms of the lawyers. Especially female advocates to see how they argued on cases and how they were conducting themselves inside and outside the courtroom,” a source told Decann Chronicle.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu is Shraddha Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s second film together after Vishal Bhardwaj’s critically-acclaimed movie Haider.
