Kolkata:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday reiterated that the saffron party will surely form the government in West Bengal once the assembly elections results are declared on May 4. Adhikari said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has completely destroyed West Bengal, but the people will give her a befitting reply this time.

In an exclusive interview with India TV, the Leader of Opposition in the incumbent West Bengal Legislative Assembly also repeated his party's claim that Banerjee's government failed to provide land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing of the Bangladesh border because the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) supports infiltration due to vote bank politics.

"This election is not just crucial for Bhabanipur but for the entire West Bengal and its future. It is about India's security. Everyone is aware that Mamata Banerjee's government has refused to provide land to the BSF for fencing the Bangladesh border. A demographic change is happening; now, nine districts have a Muslim majority here," Suvendu said.

When asked about Abhishek Banerjee's claim that the BJP will lose the Bengal elections, Suvendu said the TMC leader has not seen struggle at all, and his only achievement is that he is the nephew of Mamata. Suvendu said Abhishek is also not aware of the struggle that he has gone through in his entire political career.

Suvendu, who is contesting the Bengal elections from two seats (Nandigram and Bhabanipur), said he received complete support of the BJP trop brass as Leader of Opposition in the state. He also attacked the TMC over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), accusing the ruling party of misleading the people.

When asked by India TV if he will be made the chief minister of West Bengal if the BJP forms the government, Suvendu said a decision in this regard will be taken by the top BJP leadership.

"Mamata Banerjee has done nothing; she failed to provide jobs and security. Even Muslim women are getting raped. Does she even know anything about CAA? We will surely win around 110 seats (in phase one). There is no question over it," Suvendu said.

"Mamata Banerjee keeps abusing the Hindus, she even criticised Maha Kumbh and the inauguration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. She was the only leader who said she would not accept the Ram Temple. Other CMs of opposition ruled states didn't do it, but she criticised it... She has destroyed West Bengal, but she will be destroyed by the people this time," he added.

The first phase of the West Bengal elections was held on April 23, and the second phase will take place on April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.
