Walls of hatred are being erected in the name of religion in India and those who stand against this "injustice" are being punished, actor Naseeruddin Shah on Friday claimed in video released by the Amnesty India against alleged government "crackdown"
In the 2.13-minute solidarity video for the human rights watchdog Amnesty, Shah said those who demand rights are being locked up.
Imran Khan was addressing an event to highlight the 100-day achievements of a provincial government in Lahore when he said his government was taking steps to ensure that religious minorities in Pakistan get their due rights.
Naseeruddin Shah was criticized online after he commented on increasing mob violence in the country.
"India is the only country in the world where people from various prominent religions co-exist peacefully... They have contributed in making India empowered, self-reliant and prosperous and will continue to do so," he added.
The veteran actor found himself at the centre of a major controversy over his remarks in reference to the killing of a policeman in Bulandshahr earlier this month.
Naseeruddin Shah's remark on rising mob violence in the country has sparked controversy on the social media.
"I am expressing concerns about the country I love, the country that is my home. How is that a crime?" Naseeruddin Shah said.
Supporting BJP's stand on the issue, Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant said that Shah should not spread hatred as it is not appropriate to sully the country's image based on one or two incidents.
Naseeruddin Shah said he feels "anxious" thinking about a situation where his children may be hounded by an angry mob asking to divulge their religious identity.
Referring to the Bulandshahr violence, in which a police inspector and a man were killed by a frenzied mob earlier this month, the actor remarked that a 'cow's life seems to be more important that a cop's life'.
Naseeruddin Shah wrote a Facebook post criticising Virat Kohli's behaviour.
