The officials said the agency concerned pressed its men and machines, and after nearly six-hour long operation cleared the road for light motor vehicles.
The traffic is plying smoothly and hundreds of vehicles, including trucks carrying essential commodities, have crossed the Jawahar Tunnel till this afternoon.
Acute shortages of petroleum products, vegetables, poultry products, mutton had hit the valley region during the week long closure of the 300 km long highway from February 6 to 12.
The highway was earlier closed for traffic on Wednesday following heavy snowfall and incessant rains which triggered avalanches and landslides at various places.
After remaining closed for six days, the strategic highway was restored for one-way traffic on Monday.
The Border Road Organisation has been pressed into clearing the highway, an official said.
According to a government official, around 20 persons are still missing in the Monday landslide which hit Sukabumi district, burying more than 30 houses, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.
The landslides were triggered after night-long rains in Ramban district.
The officials said it would approximately take five hours to clear the highway.
Rescue teams were picking through the rubble, looking for survivors and victims of the disaster which took place on Thursday in the town of Bukalasi in the Bududa district. An unknown number of people were still missing.
Two days of heavy rains have caused widespread damage in northern states, with at least 11 people killed and unassessed destruction of Kharif season crops.
