Skype brings new AI background blur feature for video calls on Desktop

Microsoft brings the new background blur feature on Skype that lets users blur the background and bringing the focus on them during video calls. This feature will be available for all users on Skype's latest version that will work on both desktops and laptops. Not to forget a similar background feature was added for Microsoft Teams users last year that is now available for all Skype users too.

With this, users will be able to blur the messy background be it home or office related to video calls. According to Skype, all desktop and laptop users using the latest version can find the background blur option by hovering at the bottom to get the video button during the video call. On pressing the right click button, users will be able to blur the background. It uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can detect human and keep the user in focus for the call. The technology can also detect hair, arms and hand, which makes the call easy and relaxed.

According to the company blog, "Background blur in Skype and Teams uses artificial intelligence (AI)-trained in human form detection-to keep you in focus during your call. This technology is also trained to detect your hair, hands, and arms, making a call with background blur just as relaxed and easy as a regular video call".
