Madrid: Rafael Nadal showed an improvement in his game during the Madrid Open but lost 400 points when he was unable to defend the title against Andy Murray, causing him to fall to seventh place in this week's Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world rankings.

The Spaniard has not been this far down in world standings in a decade, since 2005, and his fall prompted several changes in the top-10, reports Efe.
