Southampton says manager Mark Hughes has left the Premier League club after less than nine months in charge.
Southampton made the announcement on Monday, two days after the team squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Manchester United and stay in the relegation zone.
The team has won one of its 14 league games this season, and that came victory came on September 1.
Hughes was hired in March and managed to keep Southampton in the top flight.
Southampton says assistant coach Kelvin Davis will take charge of the team's next game at Tottenham on Wednesday.
