Pune, Oct 5: Karnataka men and Maharashtra women created new national records in their respective 100m freestyle relays, while Virdhawal Khade and Richa Mishra continued to make waves on the fourth and penultimate day of the 66th Enerzal Senior National Aquatic Championships here on Thursday.





Karnataka quartet of Gagan A P, Sourabh Sangvekar, Aaron D'Souza and Rohit Havaldar bagged the men's 4x100m freestyle gold with a new national record of 3 minutes, 32.14 seconds at the Shiv Chatrapati Stadium in Balewadi.

They bettered their own year-old existing record of 3:34.55.  A new record was also set in the corresponding women's event by the host state's quartet of Arti Ghorpade, Aakanksha Vora, Aditi Dhumatkar and Jyotsna Pansare, who clocked 4:07.09 to win the gold, thus bettering the three-year-old benchmark of 4:08.63 set up by Karnataka.

Maharashtra's Khade continued his domination of the men's section by winning the 50m freestyle event for his fourth individual gold medal of the meet, while police woman Richa bagged her fifth gold by clinching the 1,500m freestyle title.  

The gold medal race between Maharashtra and Karnataka was red hot with the hosts one better than their arch rivals (11-10) going into the last day of the championships.  Karnataka led the overall medal tally with 28 as compared to 26 by the hosts.

In waterpolo, Services will take on Railways in the men's final, while Kerala and Bengal would clash for the women's crown.

In the men's semifinals, Services downed Police 12-7 while Railways thrashed Maharashtra 8-1. In the women's section, Kerala scraped past the hosts 7-5, while Bengal got the better of Police 2-0.

Results: Men: 50m freestyle: 1. Virdhawal Khade (Mah) 22.84, 2. Anshul Kothari (Guj) 24.04, 3. Arjun J P (Railways) 24.12.

100m backstroke: 1. M B Balakrishnan (TN) 58.97, 2. Rohit R Havaldar (Kar) 01:00.60, 3. Rohit Imoliya (MP) 01:00.73 200m Individual Medley: 1. Aaron Agnel D'Souza (Kar) 02:07.38, 2. Sandeep Sejwal (Railways) 02:11.38, 3. Arvind M (Kar) 02:12.95.

4x100m freestyle relay: 1. Karnataka (Gagan A P, Sourabh Sangvekar, Aaron D'Souza, Rohit Havaldar) 3:32.14 (NR), 2.  Railways (Sajan Prakash, Arjun JP, G Mohan, Saranya Nair) 3:34.69, 3.
